I originally spotted this little thing on a journal entry by brennennn ; though I haven't been 'tagged' I've decided to start a cycle myself, pretty much for the hell of it, though perhaps based upon my own variation on the human need for understanding.
The rules are: The player of this "game" starts with the topic "6 weird habits/things about yourself" and people who get tagged need to write a journal about their 6 weird habits/things as well as stating the rules clearly. In the end, you need to choose the next 6 people to be tagged and list their names. Don't forget to leave a comment that says "you are tagged" in their devpage comments and tell them to read yours.... "
So my, 6 would be:
1) I can't remember a night where I have slept without dreaming, and I have some rather vivid dreams. These range from suddenly being back in school (and sometimes being the oldest 'kid' there), to surviving the apocalypse (frequent flyers include the undead, alien invasion and thermonuclear war). I think the most strangely amusing one ran: the icecaps had completely melted thanks to some undetermined unpleasant weapon, so I hitched a ride up to Lancashire on a submarine and an ex-military aquatic landing vehicle, only to find my father half-way through converting his semi-rural cottage into a Mexican restaurant called "Chico's Bodega" and arguing with the Mexican refugees he had hired to help out about shares in the profits. All, of course, a product of my own worries, political pre-occupations and environmentalist leanings. And the odd action movie.
2) I have a pretty substantial and reasonably eclectic book collection. Part of the reason for this is that I have inherited a bit of 'hoarding gene': my grandfather NEVER threw anything away, and my father has a tendency to keep things that could come in handy or be of some value at a later date. This does seem to be diminishing as the generations pass; my dad doesn't hoard things to the extent that my grandad did, and my own hoarding tendencies are restricted to cultural goods: thus, my book collection, my similarly large and diverse music collection, and my rapidly growing DVD collection (in addition to my VHS collection, which is now starting to diminish from its peak a few years ago).
3) I'm very political indeed, and a very morally-focussed person. Not in a right-wing religious sense, I hasten to add; I have a very strong sense of justice, social responsibilty, and a very nuanced view of most of the major political issues of our time. This means I have an acute dislike of the current political process in Britain; I think it needs top-to-bottom reform, if not a complete redesign, and I would like to see statesmen/women running things rather than 'politicians' obsessed with spin, appearance and electoral advantage. I like to think of myself as quite chivalrous, but (as my ex-girlfriend once said at a friend's wedding), I have a nuanced view of the world and an intensity that disqualifies me from true 'knight in shining armour' status (and I don't always keep a fresh cloth handkerchief handy...)
4) My accent often seems similar to a typical English home-counties accent, albeit somewhat deeper (I have a fairly deep voice, especially just after I wake up). However, 15 years ago, I had the thickest central Lancashire accent around. I started deliberately 'neutralising' my accent in my teens, when I was bullied at lot at high school in London, partly for being from a different bit of the country. After that, I picked up elements of local inflections from London, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire, and some 'amercianisms' from sharing a place with an American for a year and watching too much Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Thus, most people in Lancashire think I have a 'posh' accent, though genuinely over-priviledged people I've encountered (and people who know such people) know that it's more a lack of a specific regional connection than anything else.
5) I don't drink coffee, though I'm as much of a caffeine addict as any archetypal New Yorker. I prefer my everyday caffeine in cold, cloying form, usually Pepsi. Though I have a thing for good tea (especially Lapsang Soushong and Darjeeling, drunk black and strong; I can't stand bog-standard PG Tips), I don't drink it as obsessively as the archetypal Englishman. It's more of a contemplative drink for me, on a par with a good Single Malt Highland Whisky.
6) The obligatory 'ick' factor: I've had much of my lower digestive system removed due to the effects of Crohn's Disease. My friend Chris once suggested I should have told the doctors to keep and pickle the diseased chunk of bowel to scare people with.
So, who to tag? Let's see, who on DevArt what I like to get to know more about?

Lurking around
So, I haven't been writing much lately. Not really in the right kind of headspace, unfortunately.
Still, I've been lurking around DA a bit, and it's great to see so much wonderful art being made. Feel free to drop in and say hi :)
Once more unto the breach
Well, it's been almost a year since my last journal entry, and it hasn't been a good one. Unfortunately, I became a victim of the recession a few months ago, as the consultancy I moved here to work for couldn't afford to renew my contract.
Hence, I shall shortly be moving to greener pastures. London is my preferred destination, being the political heart of the UK, but I am applying for positions pretty widely, so there are a few other major UK cities where I might end up. Moving day is planned for sometime in late August or early September, so I have a couple of months yet to make concrete plans.
Ongoing
Another big afternoon of running through my DevArt backlog, again apologies for not getting around to it before now. Plenty of great stuff, too!
Two new politics-orientated Devians have now been posted; my "Hominis Dei" series of short stories is now work-in-progress, and I should be posting the first one this week. The whole series is based on the excellent art of alexiuss (https://www.deviantart.com/alexiuss)
I've settled into Newcastle quite well, but the social side of things continues to be vexing. Work has proved to be somewhere where I'm not going to meet new drinking buddies (small office, everyone else has family etc, usual issues for a small company), so I'm hopi
Work/life balance
Well, I've been living in Newcastle for nearly two months now. Beyond the daily grind of my job, life is proving somewhat vexing. Though I am managing to get out much more than when I was living in Lancashire, as yet I haven't had chance to really develop a social life. Part of the problem is that the company I now work for is rather small and is simply the kind of business where there's so much going on that socialising isn't a real option. Hence I'm trying to explore other avenues to develop a life around here - I'm thinking of trying a book club, maybe taking some classes, that kind of thing. Though it does remain to be seen how things wil
